Enhancements to the Journal Guide: Streamlined search features for an improved author experience

Event duration September 02, 2024

In August 2024, the latest update to the Journal Guide introduced significant improvements designed for authors and librarians. The release includes enhanced search capabilities with new ISSN and eISSN options, refined search handling that effectively filters out noise words and special characters, and provides for more accurate search outcomes. Additionally, many duplicate journals have been removed, and a new filter has been added to display journals covered by a publisher agreement, ensuring users can find the most relevant and accurate journal matches for their manuscript submissions quickly and easily.

Key Enhancements Include:

  1. Improved Search Options: With the addition of ISSN and eISSN search capabilities, users can now locate journals with pinpoint accuracy. This feature is pivotal for researchers who rely on specific serial identifiers to swiftly access relevant publications.
  2. Refined Search Mechanics: The algorithm now intelligently handles stop-words and special characters, minimizing irrelevant matches and ensuring the accuracy of the search results. This refinement is crucial for streamlining search results and enhancing user experience by reducing the clutter of non-essential information.
  3. Zero Match Alert: In an effort to provide transparent and precise search results, the system has been configured to return zero results when no matches are found, allowing users to recalibrate their search parameters effectively.
  4. Journal Clean-Up: Redundancies have been eliminated and inaccuracies in Green OA indications have been rectified, ensuring that institutional users receive the most dependable and accurate journal listings.
  5. Agreement Filter: A new filter has been added that displays journals with a current agreement with a publisher, further simplifying and promoting access to contracted resources.

These updates reinforce the Journal Guide’s role as an indispensable tool in the academic and research community. By continuously refining our platform, we aim to empower our users with superior tools along the entire publishing journey. This upgrade is a step forward in our journey toward making scholarly communication more accessible and efficient for our global user base.
