Copenhagen - ChronosHub and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) announce a new collaboration for a pre-submission Journal Guide by ChronosHub to provide more clarity for authors on open access conditions before they submit their manuscript.

The RSC is proud to have signed Read & Publishing agreements with institutions in 32 countries. And while more choice can be a positive for researchers, the RSC understands that having agreements with different publishers can mean it is increasingly difficult for authors to keep track of which journals their article processing charges are covered in. The ChronosHub Journal Guide addresses this, by allowing authors to select their institution, and subsequently being advised which journals are covered by their agreement, and if not, which prices apply.
The service will go live for authors at the end of June 2023.
In addition to providing information on agreement eligibility, it will allow authors to search and filter all RSC journals by a variety of criteria, so that authors can find the best journal to submit to. Funder compliance is also flagged after the selection of a funder.
Providing clarity to authors on open access conditions is key to what we do, and we put mechanisms for this in place in our platform all the way along the article workflow – but it really starts before submission, with our Journal Guide – making sure that authors know what they might need to pay and knowing if they’ll be compliant with their funder. We’re excited to see RSC authors take full advantage of our pre-submission service.
The Royal Society of Chemistry aims to make all our journals open access in the next five years. Signing Read & Publish agreements is part of our plan to transition to open access. Ensuring that these agreements are utilized at their fullest potential, and making sure authors are aware of them, is crucial for our mission. The ChronosHub Journal Guide will be a great tool to share with all the organisations we have signed agreements with, and it will really help their authors to make the most of the agreements!
